Hugo was born in Barcelos in the North of Portugal. He developed a deep curiosity in the natural world from a young age. It inspired his career as a scientist in Finland as well as fueled his drive to explore the world as an endurance athlete. You will find Hugo one of the most humble, friendly, and supportive adventurers to cross paths. He has competed in ultra running races throughout Europe. Last summer he ran solo five consecutive days on the Alfred Wainwright trail to cross England from the Irish to the North Sea, coast to coast 320 Km.
Hugo is returning to his home country of Portugal in June specifically as a guide with RunQuest Travel. Asked about his home country and he smiles. He loves Lisbon because of everything the city has to offer as well as being close to Sintra, Cabo da Roca, and the coast. He is thrilled that we are returning to Geres National Park as it is one of his favorite natural areas in the world. He loves Portuguese food and he says it is hard to choose his favorite because he misses them all.
Currently he is training for crossing the Greenland ice cap on cross country skis in an expedition planned for May, 2015.
